Our totalPower kit tests for a variety of genes involved in methylation, including:
MTHFR
Variations in this gene may influence how effectively you metabolize folate (vitamin B9) from food into its bioactive form. Individuals with MTHFR variation may benefit from supplementation with a form of folate that is pre-methylated.
MTR
Variation in this gene is associated with slightly less than optimal recycling of homocysteine to methionine, which may be linked to congenital birth defects including spina bifida, cleft palate and cardiac defects. To reduce risk, ensure adequate intake of vitamin B12.
MTRR
Individuals with variation in this panel have reduced enzymatic efficiency and in turn, the effectiveness with which vitamin B12 is remethylated is diminished. These individuals have an increased risk for diseases related to vitamin B12 deficiency and homocysteine accumulation. Ensure adequate vitamin B12 consumption to reduce risk.
COMT
This gene plays a role in many neurological disorders. Variation is a possible risk factor for anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, eating disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, insomnia, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Other methylation genes we test for include: FUT2, MTHFD1, SHMT1, TCN1, TCN2, VDR.
Our totalPower kit can help you learn what you can do to improve your body’s methylation for better health!
